About us

  • Joey

From an early age, Joey was enamoured with all life aquatic, inclusive of sharks, giant squid, and the kaleidoscope of colours characteristic of coral reefs, despite growing up far from accessible oceans in Montreal, Canada.

Joey went on to complete his PhD at McGill University in Montreal on the mating systems of lemon shark populations in the Bahamas and took up postdoctoral research positions at the Hawai'i Institute of Marine Biology, in Saudi Arabia, and in Perth. More recently he served as NSW Senior Research Scientist and Curator in Ichthyology at the Australian Museum, where he remains a Research Associate.

Joey continues to develop genetic toolkits to better catalogue our aquatic biodiversity, and advocates for the expansion of citizen science programs, making science more accessible to everyone. As Co-Founder of E2SG, he brings his scientific expertise, local knowledge of aquatic flora and fauna, and a passion for nature-centric discussions to help steer the organisation’s vision.

  • Nicole
